DescriptionThe degree of Doctor of Science is awarded for independent and original research which constitutes a substantial and distinguished contribution to the knowledge and understanding of any branch of learning with which the Faculty is concerned. The candidate's work should demonstrate a high degree of innovative thinking in the development and testing of hypotheses and new investigative procedures, and should be recognised as such by the scientific community at large.
Admission requirementsA qualifying period of 10 years after completion of a first degree is required. In its initial stage an application for the award of the degree is considered as a prima facie case. If such a case is established, the candidate is invited to present a submission for examination.

COURSE DETAILS

StructureAssessment of a candidate's case is made on refereed publications including invited reviews. Abstracts, book reviews and trivial publications should not be submitted or listed. The papers presented should show clear evidence of a significant contribution towards the advancement of science. This should be reflected in the quality rather than the number of publications.
